ADAM H. GOLDING
Educator
Adam’s journey in education is marked by his commitment to nurturing critical thinking among his students. He believes that fostering these skills is essential for students to navigate complex issues in today’s world. In music, Adam’s passion lies in early music, where he seeks to bridge the gap between historical compositions and contemporary audiences, making this genre accessible and enjoyable for all. His dual focus on education and music reflects his belief in the power of knowledge and creativity to inspire change.

“As an educator, my goal is to encourage my students to question. Everything. From the world around them, to their preconcieved ideas and beliefs, to the very nature of what it is to be human. I do this in three primary areas being philosophy, theory of knowledge, and design. For the past 20 years, I have been employed by Redhill School in Johannesburg, where I have enjoyed working in numerous dynamic roles.” – Adam H. Golding
Philosophy

Whilst the study of Philosophy is usually limited to a handful of university students, Adam is convinced that numerous lessons from Philosophy are an essential part of a basic education and that can support adults in any workplace.
One of the central ideas in Philosophy is that of argument. Unlike debating, however, the goal is never to win, but rather to come closer to the truth.
Theory of Knowledge

Theory of Knowledge forms part of the core of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The course is designed to push students to question knowledge itself, looking at bias, perspectives, methods of acquisition, realiability and validity, and the differences between knowledge, belief, and opinion.
Design

Whilst it might not be immediately clear how design relates to philosophical thinking, the connection is fundamental, as both are concerned with problem solving. Whilst the problems that we deal with in each field are diverse, lessons transfer in novel and unexpected ways.
