ADAM H. GOLDING
Musician
“Adam has made a name for himself in two distinct, but overlapping areas of music. He is considered one of the foremost interpreters of classical and traditionalnJewish Liturgical Music in South Africa, and has made a large impact in the early music community in Johannesburg.”

Conducting

Adam has worked as a conductor with numerous groups, including holding the prestigious position of conductor for The Johannesburg Youth Orchestra from 2003 – 2011.
Whilst he does still engage in freelance conducting, Adam’s primary musical focus today is as musical director of The African Renaissance Ensemble.
Early Music

From an early age, Adam was facinated with the music of the Baroque and Renaissance periods.
In 2017, Adam founded The African Renaissance Ensemble with the goal of intepreting music from this period and sharing these seldom-performed masterpieces with a wider audience.
The group performs regularly in Johannesburg and Pretoria and has toured to Cape Town to much acclaim.
The group regularly attracts experienced professional musicians to join it for the love of performing the music and to experience the joy of uncovering a historically informed approach.

Jewish Liturgical Music

Since 2008, Adam has presented choirs at multiple festivals, conducted four major synagogue choirs, and toured locally and internationally with groups performing this music. He is widely considered to be one of the top synagogue choirmasters in South Africa.
In 2012, Adam founded The Lewandowski Chorale, a non-denominational mixed choir with the goal of performing the music of Lewandowski as it was originally written, and exposing a wider audience to this music, both within and outside of the Jewish Community. The group performed regularly in Johannesburg and toured to Cape Town and twice to the International Lewandowski Festival in Berlin.
